Lisa Jefferson grew up in the state of Colorado and started drawing constantly around the age of four, drawing everyday items all around her. Her family was very encouraging and kept scrapbooks of her drawings and provided lots of art supplies. Lisa attended Colorado State University and achieved a BFA in Graphic Design. Attending university opened up a whole new world of art & she loved learning about art history as well as modern artists. During this time she discovered the large scale works of watercolor artist Joseph Raffael. The Rocky Mountain Watermedia Exhibitions held annually in Golden, CO also provided lots of inspiration. She was amazed at what artists were doing with watercolor! Lisa & her husband Tim traveled a lot around the American West for his geology work. Watercolor proved to be a great medium that was easy to move around with. Lisa worked in the printing industry doing design and illustration. Three daughters came along and there wasn’t much time for painting. The family moved to Minnesota where Tim was from. Lisa started moving back to painting in watercolor and entering shows & gaining gallery representation. She enjoyed the transparent qualities of watercolor for painting realistic water in landscapes and glass in still lifes. She received signature memberships in The Rocky Mountain Watermedia Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and the National Watercolor Society. With their daughters grown, Lisa and Tim decided to move back to the west & moved to the Lake Tahoe area of Nevada in 2014. Here she started experimenting with acrylic paints for her realistic mountain landscapes and enjoyed the ability to create larger works and the ease of framing without mats and glass. Lisa missed the “play” and flow of watercolor and recently has been working in watercolor on the clay coated Aquabord panels which can be spray varnished and hung without glass. Lisa Jefferson is a member of the Sierra Watercolor Society and is represented by two area galleries.
